Our Firm
Established in Pittsburgh, the city once called the Gateway to the West,
but now better known as the Steel
City, Tighe, Evan, Schenck & Paras has represented businesses,
insurance carriers and individuals for over 20 years. Employing our own unique and
personal brand of lawyering, the attorneys of Tighe, Evan, Schenck & Paras
have kept pace with both the law and the fast changing legal environment.
Founding members Bill
Tighe & George Evan began the Firm in 1981, after entering
the legal profession in 1969 (Bill), 1977.
(George) and 1971 (Jim). The enterprising
lawyers added Ed Schenck and Harry Paras to their growing practice in 1982 and
1983, respectively. Rounding out the "team," Gretchen Fitzer brought
her talents and
energy to the Firm in 1991 (Gretchen).
Our firm is known for its preeminence in providing high
quality legal services in the areas of insurance defense, workers' compensation, toxic
torts, state and federal court litigation and mediation/arbitration. Our experience
in these areas has resulted in close ties to various businesses, individuals and insurers,
both in Pennsylvania and around the United States.
Our firm represents a diverse range of clients in areas
such as insurance litigation, workers' compensation/occupational disease, toxic torts,
products liability, transportation, manufacturing, real estate and wills/trusts as well as
work for trade associations, legal and medical professionals and government agencies.
Our clients are diverse in size and character. We
represent individuals in their personal and business concerns, trusts and estates,
publicly traded and multinational companies, and start-up, small, and medium-sized
businesses. Our clients also include public bodies such as local municipalities and
public utilities.
When a client seeks counsel in any of these areas, we
assign one of our experienced attorneys to closely review the case in order to deliver the
most effective and efficient representation. The assigned attorney heads the
litigation team and is the "primary contact attorney" who is responsible for the
overall coordination of services on the file.
All of our attorneys have diverse backgrounds with
varying business, judicial clerk and/or practical experiences plus varied personal and
professional interests. Our attorneys publish articles on legal issues, mediate
disputes, act as instructors and speakers for claims groups and insurance companies and
participate/present insightful and timely information to other members of the Bar and the
public through seminars and continuing legal education programs.
Our lawyers are active in numerous professional and civic
organizations and fill leadership roles in local trial associations. Tighe,
Evan, Schenck & Paras lawyers have served as committee and board members
for the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County and board members in the Insurance
Professionals of Pittsburgh. We also serve the community through the Allegheny
County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations. We encourage our lawyers to take an active
role in community affairs and to provide legal services on a pro bono basis as
appropriate.
Modern technology is an important tool in our delivery of
cost-efficient legal services. Each attorney's office is fully computerized and
wired for the Internet. We offer sophisticated computerized capabilities for word
processing, litigation support, legal research and Internet document transmittal. We
have established internal and external email capability for all attorneys and clients,
permitting real-time information communication and status updates between the firm and
those we serve.
We would be pleased to provide more information about our
lawyers and our results in the wide range of areas covered by our litigation and business
practices. Please contact George Evan,
Managing Partner, Bill Tighe, Litigation
Manager, or any of our other attorneys at 1.412.391.8100 for additional information.
